Discovering your Family History

Researching your family history is more popular than ever. We are curious creatures and most of us would love to find out something about our family we didn’t know. Are there any skeletons lurking away in the closet? Are there any heroes or villains?

Creating a Family Tree is an exciting way to discover who your ancestors are. It is something the whole family can get involved with, and gives children an exciting new slant on history lessons at school.  TV programmes such as “Who Do You Think You Are” have certainly drawn attention to the subject. The programme shows celebrities discovering their unknown ancestors, helped by a team of specialists.  But did you know that you don’t have to call on a team of historians and genealogists to trace your own family history and create a family tree?

Hunting for your Heritage

There is plenty of help to search for your heritage on the World Wide Web if you know where to look. It need not cost you a lot, in fact there are plenty of free resources available to anyone who wants to look for their family history online for no charge.

This website shows you where you can find some surprising and not so surprising pieces of information and how you can record and build your own family tree for future generations. I have written this based on researching UK ancestors. If your family comes from another country then there are resources which have a global reach.

Whilst I am not a trained genealogist I have gained a lot of experience and knowledge while tracing my own family tree back to the 17th century.

Good luck in your search and you never know who you may find!
